Crashraful dropped

I see that finally Crashraful has been dropped from Bangladesh's squad. He must be one of the biggest underachiever's in cricket as with his talent he should have at least averaged in the 40's in test cricket instead he is averaging only 22.78!

Only a player with some talent can score a hundred on his debut against Murali and of course I won't forget his match winning hundred against the Aussies at Cardiff in 2005. He can play late and has the ability to play most of the shots in the book.

The selectors perhaps shouldn't have picked him when he was so young but if a player plays 53 tests, one expects him to learn about batting in test cricket but Crash would perhaps never learn. For instance, I saw him play in the second test against India recently and it looked like Ashraful was trying his best to get out every ball by trying some crazy shots. Of course in the end he got out to a ugly slog.

Crash's failure again shows that it isn't just about talent as he has that in abundance.

All the talent in the world, none of the application, terrible shot selection and the situation always seems to go to his head. A waste!

GreenJJ,

Good to see you on the blog. Yeah he is just a waste of talent. The Bang. selectors gave him no less than 53 tests but Ashraful hasn't made use of those opportunities.

Temperament has to go together with talent.. And that is what he lacks! We have some ppl like him even in India!

BJ,

Yeah they have taken a correct decision as they have already given him so many chances.

Trideep,

Good to see you on the blog. Yeah talent without temperament is of no use.

Hick or Ramps were talented but couldn't do well.

It wasn't unexpected. During India's tour, there had been voices raised about the number of chances Ashrafuul had already been given. So the decision might not have been surprising even for Ashraful himself.

I hope Bangladesh find a good stable batsman to replace him. A competitive Bangladesh side can do wonders for Test cricket.

SJ,

I do remember calls for Ashraful to be dropped even after the tour of Caribbean. He did struggle against a weakened Caribbean team for sure as he averaged only 6 in the test series!

Bang. do tend to perform better at the under 19 level so maybe there is someone who can do well.

I do hope though that Ashraful can eventually come back from this a much much better player. He fully deserves to be dropped (should have happened a long time ago), but as has been stated earlier, he oozes talent, and it would be a crying shame if it is wasted for good now.

The question would be when is he going to come good? the selectors can't continue to give him chances.
