Good work Afghanistan!!

Today, as expected most would talk about the dramatic collapse by the Saffer team against India at Eden Gardens but what about Afghanistan qualifying for the world T/20? Afghanistan even won the ICC world T/20 qualifier tournament. It has truly been an amazing achievement by the Afghan team.

A few years back they were no hopers but have steadily climbed up the ladder by creating upsets but by thrashing Ireland, who are a decent side as they have players like Porterfield, Brien brothers, Johnston and co. they have showed that they are no more rank outsiders but are up there with the best teams at the associate level.

Afghanistan have some fine players like Hamid Hassan. He had to struggle a lot in his younger days but with hardwork and determination he has made a name for himself as a fine medium pacer. I would also like to add, Karim Sadiq and the off spinner, Nabi to the list. Afghanistan also seem to have a few up coming cricketers like the 18 year old, Shahzad who scored 65 today against Ireland and Zardan.

It looks like cricket is gaining ground in Afghanistan though it would be better if Karzai gets to know that it is not bmw rule but it is lbw rule lol!

Anyway I take this opportunity to congratulate Afghanistan for their qualification to the 2010 world T/20.

I had never imagined that one day I'll be excited about the news that Afghanistan is taking giant steps in the field on cricket. A couple of days back, on my blog (, I had posted this article that there is a distinct possibility that we'll have an Indo-Afghan encounter on 1st May 2010 at St. Lucia. Now its become a reality. I feel really happy for the Afghan cricketers and the cricket fraternity there.
